The idea that history must at least have been lived a little bit to allow itself to talk about it is an Ethan trick. Thus, some of us know that Lawrence of Arabia's epic could not have taken place without the Great War. But we also know that his account "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" would not have been the monument of literary power that it is if its author had not lived the Arab guerilla warfare against the Ottoman Empire down to its flesh.

In the beginning there is therefore an uncertain promise of Glory and in the end this or that activist who will be called a plural-activist, a solitary-adventurer or a revolted-solidarist according to the way he has grasped it.
